The Children

Meet the children of the Char Fasson Orphanage.

** Please note: The children cannot be adopted by people who are not Bangladeshi or of Bangladeshi origin. In addition to strict laws of adoption in Bangladesh, many of these children still have family members in the near-by area. We do, however, encourage you to consider sponsorship of any of the children. For food and all supplies, each child needs only $25 per month.

Rajib was nicknamed Trouble by this writer because of his beautiful but mischievous eyes. He seems to be well liked and a leader among the boys.
Ibrahim is a quiet boy who stays to himself. He would like to be a doctor.
Zuel is small but very strong for his size. This writer nicknamed him Ironman after seeing him carry a huge basket of weeds on his head.
Mahiuddin is rail thin but also strong for his size and hence the nickname Popeye. He is quiet yet playful. His older brother also lives at the orphanage.
Sabuj, nicknamed Skeletal, was emaciated when he was admitted to the orphanage. Though he remains thin, he is healthy and active.
Waliuddin is a very quiet boy. He is a loner but gets along well with the other boys. He is a good student who would like to be a policeman.
Rakib is a good student who likes playing with the other boys. He would like to be a teacher.
Shohorab enjoys playing with the other boys and wants to be a doctor. He is a good student.
Shohel has a mischievous side and has been known to pull pranks on this writer. He should probably put more of his energy into his studies as he is reported to be a fair student.
When Suman was 4 years old his father died of tuberculosis. His mother died one year later. He is a good student who would like to be a lawyer.
When Sharif Hossain was 8 years old his father died of an unknown disease. He is a good student and is second in his class. He gets along well with the other boys.
Mainuddin is an active boy who is third in his class. He would like to be a teacher.
Sumon is the youngest of three and his father died before he was born. His mother and sisters now live with his grandparents but they could not afford to care for him also. He is an above average student in a class of 85. He is a nice boy who gets along with everyone.
When Abbasuddin was 6 years old his father died of cholera. He is the oldest of 4 children with no relatives to help the family. He is third in his class. He would like to be a doctor because at a ratio of 4,000 patients /1 there are not enough doctors to care for the people of Bangladesh. He feels that rich or poor, all people are deserving of treatment.
Abi Abdullah’s father died when he was 2 years old. He is fifth in his class of 55 and would like to be a doctor to help the poor.
Abdullah was 4 years old when his father died. His mother works as a maid but does not make enough money to feed herself and her children. Abdullah is a good student and is 4th in his class of 60.
In this picture Aktar has a cast on his arm. He sustained a broken arm when the bicycle he was on was hit by a bus. He was fortunate not to have been hurt more seriously. He was in a lot of pain for several days afterward due to lack of pain medication. The other boys were very helpful to him and he handled it like a trooper. He likes living at the orphanage and playing with the other boys.
Sujon was 2 years old when his father died. He came to live at the orphanage after his mother remarried because her new husband did not want to care for her 2 sons. He is a good student who would like to be a doctor in order to help the poor and needy.
Rafiqul’s teachers feel that he is an exceptionally bright boy. The orphanage feels that it is in his best interest to scrape together enough money for a tutor so that he can continue to excel in his studies. He is curious and has a strong desire to learn about the world. He does not feel that Bangladesh has a good education system and would like to become a teacher in order to pass on his knowledge to others.
Al Amin’s father died in a very way typical to this area. He was out fishing in a small wooden boat when a storm struck and he drowned. Al Amin is an active learner and always eager to help out.
Hanif is a good student who is tops in his class. He is a quiet boy with a sincere smile. He does not often have access to a TV, but when he does, he loves to watch cartoons.
Monir was malnourished when he was admitted to the orphanage. He is still small for his age but he is very athletic and participates in sports with the bigger boys. He was recently the top of the pyramid at a local competition. He is confident and active and nicknamed Strut.
Shahabuddin is a quiet boy who enjoys a good joke. He is studious and would like to be a teacher like his father was before his death. He likes living at the orphanage and playing with the other boys. His younger brother also lives here.
Razib is a small, quiet, and curious boy. He sometimes wanders from the orphanage without permission to go exploring.
Rasel was malnourished when he came to live at the orphanage. He appreciates his life here because he is able to receive food, clothing, and an education.
Both of Hasnain Ahmed’s parents are dead. He would like to become a doctor because he feels that they would be alive today had they been able to afford medical care.
Mamun’s father died of dysentery. His mother was often unable to feed her children and he was malnourished upon admission to the orphanage. He is thankful to be living here with his brother. He has a shy personality and movie star looks.
Abbus was 4 years old when his father died and his mother was unable to sustain her family on their small farm. He is likes to play cricket.
Monik came to live at the orphanage with his older brother because his father is too sick to work and cannot care for the family. Monick likes school but is an average student.
Anowar lives at the orphanage with his younger brother. He is a good student who got a scholarship for his primary education. He also hopes to get one for his secondary education.
Kalam has lived at the orphanage since 1985. His parents had abandoned him because he is mentally handicapped. It was feared that he would not survive because of severe malnutrition, but he pulled through due to vigilant care. He continues to live at the orphanage because he is unable to care for himself. He loves to eat and he helps out in the kitchen.
